As a manager or supervisor, it is highly likely that you will be asked at some stage to write a letter of recommendation for an employee who is seeking employment elsewhere.
We have put together a template that you can use as a guide whether it be for a personal recommendation or reference.

Before starting it is highly recommended that you first collect information on the former employee so that you can specifically speak about how they contributed to the workplace. If it has been a while since the employee worked with you a great way to refresh your memory is by bringing up their CV.

Secondly, ask the employee about the position that they are applying for so that you can refer back to the skills they have used and how the hiring company can benefit from the employee’s skill set.

Lastly, don’t forget to include your contact information in case the hiring manager has any further questions to ask you. Include this in the last paragraph of the letter and under your signature.
